Summer in Canada
Summer is an incredible season to experience in Canada. There are a variety of outdoor activities to engage in all throughout the country. From sailing in British Columbia to whale watching in Newfoundland, Canadian summers offer something for all to enjoy.
The first Monday of August is a Civic Holiday across the country. The holiday has a unique name in the different provinces and municipalities: Regatta Day in Newfoundland, Terry Fox Day in Manitoba, Saskatchewan Day in Saskatchewan, British Columbia Day in British Columbia, Natal Day in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, Simcoe Day in Toronto, New Brunswick Day in New Brunswick, Colonel By Day in Ottawa, Heritage Day in Alberta and Joseph Brant Day in Burlington, Ontario. In the City of Vaughan, Ontario, it is called Benjamin Vaughan day.
In fact, many of the other summer months also have holidays. Canada Day in July and Labour Day in September allow extra time for working Canadians to relax and enjoy the warm weather.
British Columbia
Small islands of Canada's West Coast
Marine parks, stunning coastlines, and breathtaking archipelagos and fjords make British Columbia an internationally known sailing destination.
Alberta
Banff National Park
The Canadian Rockies are a favourite for camping, biking, and hiking. Banff National Park, one of the most visited National Parks of Canada, offers all of the above. The turquoise glacial lakes, vast mountain ranges, and flourishing wildlife offers a picture-perfect scene for all to enjoy.
Manitoba
As a British physician in Canada, you never want to ask a patient to return to the surgery in two weeks. You will scare them as the word surgery implies being cut with a scalpel. We call our doctor’s office a clinic.
In the UK you might apply a plaster, but no Canadian will understand this. We always say bandage or Band-Aid.
In the UK the emergency number is 999, in Australia it is 000, in Ireland it is 112, but in Canada it is 911.
Fishing in Manitoba's lakes
Fishing is another popular activity that many Canadians enjoy. Called the Land of 100,000 Lakes, Manitoba is home to a range of scenic (and fishable) lakes to explore. Thousands of kilometres of roads create convenient access to some of the finest multi-species fisheries within North America.
Ontario
Whitewater rafting in Ottawa River
For those seeking more of a thrill, Canada’s rivers may offer the perfect opportunity. Whitewater canoeing or rafting in the Ottawa River is an ideal place to start. The river splits into channels which allow for a variety of difficulty levels for both kids and adults to enjoy. A great way to beat the heat in the summer!
Our client owns three medical clinics and has an opening in one of the busiest clinics. This is primarily a walk-in clinic serving patients of all ages. Physicians who speak Urdu, Pakistani, Hindi will have an advantage. The cost of living is about 60% of that found in Toronto which is one hour’s drive away.
New Brunswick
Swallowtail Lighthouse in New Brunswick
Hiking and trail walking are arguably some of the most popular outdoor activities in Canada. New Brunswick’s mountains and nature parks offer a variety of hikes and trails for people at all fitness levels. Deer, moose, hare, bears, birds, and rare insects are just some of the animals that may be observed.
MCC LMCC Update (July 15, 2021)
A new business service focusing on awarding the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) as a stand-alone process was put into effect on June 29, 2021. Launched by the Medical Council of Canada (MCC), the service will help candidates who were unable to complete the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) Part II throughout the pandemic. The implementation will have two phases, to guarantee that the MCC is compliant with the Registration in the Canadian Medical Register Policy.
For more details about the two-phase approach, read more below:

MCCQE1 Notice (July 27, 2021)
If you are preparing for the MCCQE1, using the Preparatory Examination (PE) as a study tool can be a significant help. The PE uses similar exam structure, question formats, content, and tools as the MCCQE1. Created by subject-matter expert physicians and refined by test committees, the PE offers an opportunity for its takers to build confidence before writing the MCCQE1.
Read through these five considerations to learn more about how you can use the PE as an effective study tool:

MCCQE1 Scheduling
In the past, some physicians had to wait until their documents were verified when applying to a Medical Council of Canada examination. There now appears to be a new policy, which enables physicians to apply without waiting for their documents to be reviewed. The message below is appearing on numerous PhysiciansApply.ca accounts that we are working with. Make sure to check your account for its status.
“If you submitted these documents to apply to a Medical Council of Canada (MCC) examination, you do not need to wait until your documents are reviewed – you can apply through your account. We will send you another message once we have reviewed your documents.”
Canadian Geography
Canada has ten provinces and three northern territories.
We say that Canada borders three oceans – the Pacific Ocean on the west, the Atlantic Ocean on the east, and the Arctic Ocean on the north.
The topography is very different across Canada. Canada has 150 mountains of 2200 meters (7421 feet) or higher.
We also have the Okanagan desert, a semi-arid area of British Columbia, known as The Napa Valley of Canada for its many wineries.
The Prairie Provinces are a vast stretch of land between British Columbia and Ontario comprising an area known as the Canadian Prairies, a 2,000 km valley of plains, forests, and farmland.
In Ontario, despite the absence of any mountainous terrain in the province, there are large areas of uplands. There are an amazing 250,000 lakes in Ontario and 99,000 km ( 62,000 miles) of rivers.
The Maritimes is a region of Eastern Canada consisting of three provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island (PEI). If you include the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, then the area in known as Atlantic Canada. The Maritimes, as its name suggests, has a topography of harbours and ports and is largely known for its fishing industry, especially Canadian lobster.
Trouble Completing Your PhysiciansApply.ca Account?
As recruiters, we discovered that many physicians have difficulty supplying their information this online service. A simple error, like not scanning all four corners of a document can cause rejection. Which documents do you have notarized? How do you submit your documents?
We have created an explanatory video that is yours FREE, just by asking. Contact [email protected] to receive your link!
If you are serious about practicing medicine in Canada the first thing you should do is open an account with PhysiciansApply.ca. It is an online portal operated under the auspices of the Medical Council of Canada (similar to the GMC in the UK). Every doctor coming to Canada must have an account. This is where your credentials must be verified. These credentials include your passport, medical degrees and more. Every province and territory of Canada has a regulatory authority to handle physician licensing and these authorities (Colleges) will need to access your PhysiciansApply.ca account before you can be licensed in Canada.
Don’t wait! Some documents can be verified quickly, and others may take some time, especially if you attended medical school in a country that is slow to respond to inquiries from Canada.
If you are an IMG, licensing in Canada as a physician simply does not happen without a PhysiciansApply.ca account.
MRCGP and Family Practice Exams in Canada
The College of Family Physicians of Canada is the recognized licensing authority for family physicians in Canada. Those physicians coming from the UK, Ireland, Australia, or the USA will usually not have to write the examination required to practice as a General Practitioner in Canada. Verification of your MRCGP, MICGP, FRACGP, FACRRM, or DABFM will be required. For more information on this certification visit CFPC.ca and check out the Education and Professional Development section. Members in good standing will use the CCFP certification.
