Red Rose Close-Up Shot

February 14 -Like in many countries red roses celebrate Valentine’s Day in Canada.

Did you know?

Single Eligible Canadians – There are more than 11 million Canadians who are single, a good size dating pool for those looking for love!

Geographic Gifting – Albertans and Quebeckers spend most of their Valentine's Day gift budget on flowers, Ontarians and the Prairie provinces on jewellery, while British Columbians earmark the most money for candy.

Awwww! 44% of women and 45% of men said that their ideal Valentine's Day gift was simply "spending time together" over and above receiving a gift. Now that’s amore!

Flag of Canada

February 15 – National Flag Day

The flag of Canada is recognized worldwide. It was on February 15, 1965 at exactly 12 o'clock noon when the familiar red and white banner was first raised over Parliament Hill in Ottawa (our nation's capital) and the Maple Leaf has been proudly waving as the official flag of our country ever since.

Coincidentally, this year many provinces have a statutory holiday on February 15. Coincidentally because the provincial statutory holiday is celebrated on the third Monday of February. Different names are used for this holiday. In British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and New Brunswick the holiday is known as Family Day. In Nova Scotia it is Heritage Day and Prince Edward Island it is Islander Day. Named after a Metis leader Manitoba celebrates Louis Riel Day!

Why GP’s love practicing medicine in Canada

The TOP 7 observations made by general practitioners, especially those from the UK, after practicing in Canada for some time:

  • the minimal admin work compared to the UK
  • the availability of two or three exam rooms for each physician
  • the steadiness of working 8 hours a day, five days a week
  • doctors in Canada are respected for their care
  • much better income
  • no home visits
  • more time to spend with their families

And their greatest regret – not making the move to Canada sooner!

Featured Practice Opportunity

Flag of Saskatchewan Province

Flag of Saskatchewan Province. The Red Prairie Lily against the yellow representing the grain field of southern Saskatchewan and green representing the forests of the north.

Practicing medicine in Saskatchewan is an excellent choice. We have an opportunity in a very nice clinic in the city of Regina where the team of physicians have 25 exam rooms and two treatment rooms available. All rooms are fully supplied. The latest Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system is used.

While the income is like anywhere else in Canada, the cost of living is approximately half of the cost in British Columbia and Ontario. Physicians quickly build a large savings account.

Gross billings, per physician, in this clinic are approximately $500,000 CAD annually or £285,000 and after shared overhead costs you will take home £200,000 or more!

For this position we offer up to $2,000 CAD repayment for PhysiciansApply.ca, practice exams and MCCQE1 expenses.

We will pay up to $6,000 of your immigration legal fees.

Relocation expenses may be paid. Ask for details.

Practice Medicine in Alberta

Map of Canada

Alberta has experienced a relatively high rate of growth in recent years, due in large part to its economy. Between 2003 and 2004, the province saw high birthrates (on par with some larger provinces such as British Columbia), relatively high immigration, and a high rate of interprovincial migration when compared to other provinces. Approximately 81% of the population live in urban areas and only about 19% live in rural areas. The total population is currently 4,600,000 or about 11% of Canada’s population.

A lake in Alberta, Canada.

Alberta is exceptionally beautiful. You will find fertile plains with abundant farms. To the west are the Rocky Mountains with their snowy peaks as host to Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise, one of over 600 freshwater lakes in the province.

A comparison of size puts Alberta at seven times the size of the UK. Those that move from the UK to Alberta are astonished at the open spaces. One gentleman remarked he pulls a long motorhome on vacation and he has no trouble navigating the roads or finding an overnight space to stay in one of many parks. Another remarked, it can get very cold in the winter, but the rest of the year is amazing.

The economy of Alberta is based on petroleum exploration, farming, ranching, and lately more high tech.

It really is an amazing place to live and practice medicine.

We Pay Your Immigration Fees

Pile of Canadian Bank Notes

When you plan your move to Canada, we pay up to $6,000 of your immigration legal fees. We do this so that you don't get discouraged by the process. There are so many scoundrels out there that will take your money and you will either have great delays or not immigrate at all. The Canadian government regulates legitimate immigration counsellors but unfortunately there are still some who try and operate outside of the law.

At CanadaMedicalCareers.ca we want your immigration to go smoothly. You will have enough details to handle without any problems with your immigration. We work with only the largest and best law firms.

MRCGP and Family Practice Exams in Canada

The College of Family Physicians of Canada is the recognized licensing authority for family physicians in Canada. Those physicians coming from the UK, Ireland, Australia, or the USA will usually not have to write the examination required to practice as a General Practitioner in Canada. Verification of your MRCGP, MICGP, FRACGP, FACRRM, or DABFM will be required. For more information on this certification visit CFPC.ca and check out the Education and Professional Development section. Members in good standing will use the CCFP certification.

PhysiciansApply.ca

If you are serious about practicing medicine in Canada the first thing you should do is open an account with PhysiciansApply.ca. It is an online portal operated under the auspices of the Medical Council of Canada (similar to the GMC in the UK). Every doctor coming to Canada must have an account. This is where your credentials must be verified. These credentials include your passport, medical degrees and more. Every province and territory of Canada has a regulatory authority to handle physician licensing and these authorities (Colleges) will need to access your PhysiciansApply.ca account before you can be licensed in Canada.

Don’t wait! Some documents can be verified quickly, and others may take some time, especially if you attended medical school in a country that is slow to respond to inquiries from Canada.

If you are an IMG, licensing in Canada as a physician simply does not happen without a PhysiciansApply.ca account.
